This post is a run-down of 5 must-read books. It will be short, sweet, and to-the-point. I have personally read through this books, and it has been a huge encouragement to me.
1. The Bible.
This is undoubtedly the most influential book in my life. It has really been a source of light and comfort to me. God’s Word, as preserved in the King James Bible. This book is a MUST-READ. I read it every day, and have read it through only twice. 😦
2. The Pilgrim’s Progress
John Bunyan’s crowning literary masterpiece. It is a wonderful and inspiring allegory of the Christian life. I have read it as a kid, and the Pilgrim’s Progress is definitely a classic must-read. (Abridged versions are the popular ones, but I recommend reading the abridged ones, then finally reading the real-deal with all its bells and whistles. 🙂 )
3. The Holy War
Another less-well-known literary work of John Bunyan’s. The Holy War is another allegory, telling of the struggles in the Christian life. The town of Mansoul is at the heart of this book, with Diabolus as the antagonist and King Shaddai and Prince Emmanuel as the protagonist. A thrilling yet encouraging book with many spiritual lessons.
4. Terrestria Chronicles
Oh how I love allegories! The Terrestria Chronicles is a modern classic written by Evangelist Ed Dunlop. It is a MUST-READ, along with John Bunyan’s powerful Pilgrim’s Progress. Depending on how you see it, the allegory in the 7-book Terrestria Chronicles series has high potential to succeed the Pilgrim’s Progress with its deep allegory. The lessons and spiritual insights gleaned are especially pertinent to the modern 21st century Christian. Seven book series: The Sword, The Ring, and The Parchment, The Quest for Seven Castles, The Search for Everyman, The Crown of Kuros, The Dragon’s Egg, The Golden Lamps, and The Great War. It also has an teacher’s guide entitled, Visits to Terrestria.(Add this excellent collection to your library at www.talesofcastles.com.) Mr. Dunlop also offers them in ebook formats, and has free ebooks for download. 🙂
5. In His Steps
By Charles M. Sheldon. In His Steps will inspire Christians to walk in Christ’s Steps. I read it as a literature text for my studies. It is a great book!
