Moses’ Rod

My Bible Reading held a precious learning gem. The reading was in Exodus 2-4 and it was about Moses receiving God’s call. People focus on Moses and all his excuses, but it was this verse that caught my attention:

Exodus 4:20 reads,
And Moses took his wife, and his sons, and set them upon an ass, an he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took THE ROD OF GOD in his hand.

The ROD OF GOD. I thought. That round, sturdy, shepherd’s staff probably, (Moses was a shepherd in Midian) became an instrument of God. What am I? I am but a mere man. I am empty, useless, like that rod. But when the rod is put into God’s hands, it becomes the rod OF GOD. Mere man put into God’s hands becomes the man OF GOD.

Are we ready to used? Anything put into God’s hands becomes OF GOD. The Wilds song, “A Simple Offering” comes to my mind. The line in the chorus goes, “For the Master can use anything, when it is placed into His hands.” Are we willing? The empty rod became a serpent and swallowed other serpents, it was used to turn the water into blood, open the Red Sea and brought water out from a rock. God can use us if we are willing. God wants to use us:

2 Chronicles 16:9 “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him….”

May we be like the rod in God’s hands.

Thank you for reading. God bless! 😀
